The Southern Branch of the IOA is delighted to invite you for a festive viewing of the film “This is Spinal Tap” by director Rob Reiner. This will be preceded by a (short) talk by
Prof. Christopher Barlow, from Solent Acoustics, titled ‘All the way to 11 – Noise levels and the music industry’.
‘This Is Spinal Tap’ shines a light on the self-contained universe of a metal band struggling to get back on the charts, including everything from its complicated history of ups and downs, gold albums, name changes and undersold concert dates, along with the full host of requisite groupies, promoters, hangers-on and historians, sessions, release events and those special behind-the-scenes moments that keep it all real.
There will be a wine and mince pie reception before the film and all attendees are welcome to comment on the film at a local curry house afterwards.
The event is free to members of the IOA and the AES, as well as to students and staff of Southampton Solent University. Due to the licencing restrictions for the film the general public cannot be admitted to this event. As numbers are limited, in order to register for this event, please go to the registration page at:
Advance registration for this event is required. Registration will close 48 hours before the event. This meeting will take place in Lecture Theatre1, which can be found above Costa at the East Park Terrace entrance of the university, next to the main reception.
