Charlotte will discuss the findings of recent national surveys of noise attitudes undertaken by Defra including the National Noise Survey 2012 and the Survey of Noise Attitudes 2013. She will present up-to-date information on current attitudes to environmental, neighbour and neighbourhood noise among the population, as well examine whether attitudes to noise have changed over the last decade. In this talk she will focus on research and surveys of noise annoyance, discussing methodological approaches to the assessment of noise annoyance and ISO/TS 15666 ‘Acoustics — Assessment of noise annoyance by means of social and socio-acoustic surveys.’ As well as describing recent research in the area. The talk will also examine which factors are associated with noise annoyance and discuss the policy implications of the findings.

Charlotte has over 15 years’ experience of conducting research into the effects of environmental noise on a wide-range of health, wellbeing and quality of life outcomes.
