Signal processing for Acousticians
Steve Cawser, URS
Whether we are aware of it or not, anyone who has used a modern sound level meter has made use of a significant amount of digital signal processing. We often tend to think of the sound level meter as a ’black box’ where sound goes in one end and a series of numbers we can use comes out of the other. But what happens inside the ‘black box’ to get us these numbers?
This presentation will cover the basics of digital audio and signal processing to explain broadly what is happening inside a sound level meter to give us those all-important numbers. This will cover topics such as sampling frequency, bit rate, spectral range, anti-aliasing and the associated limitations.
Attendance is free, no need to book, everyone welcome. CPD certificates provided. Any queries please contact: paul.shields@urs.com
Following the meeting, the discussion is likely to continue in Haveli, Attenborough Lane, Chilwell voted Nottingham Post’s Indian Restaurant of the Year. All are welcome to attend. Please let Paul know in advance so that we can make a reservation.
