Eastern Branch Evening Meeting
Protecting Music Venues and the “Agent of Change” Principle
Presentation By Kieran Gayler, Sharps Gayler LLP and Alex Mann, Music Venues Trust
Thursday 15 March 2018 at 7pm
The Weston Homes Community Stadium, United Way, Colchester, Essex, CO4 5UP

Much has been discussed in the media recently regarding the “Agent of Change” principle. Agent of Change is a term that is used to describe various approaches to controlling the relationship between new built development (typically residential), and extant noise sources, in this case music venues.

Kieran advised Ministry of Sound during their long and very public campaign in respect of a residential development close to the club, and has since advised a number of other famous venues in similar circumstances. He will talk about his experiences, including some discussion on good practice approaches to assessment, the variation in music noise criteria applied to new residential development and the potential solutions available in resolving conflicts.

Alex handles external relations for the Music Venues Trust, a charity which has been very much at the forefront of a campaign to protect, secure and improve Grassroots Music Venues in the UK. Alex will talk about the work of the MVT, with more emphasis on the political and industry angles and some of the history to the Agent of Change campaign.

After brief presentations from Kieran and Alex, it is intended that the evening will include an open discussion with attendees about how we as consultants, EHOs and/or operators can approach similar situations and whether the Agent of Change legislation or policy will really make us approach things in a different way to how we do already. Please be prepared to join in the discussion!

CPD Certificates will be available.
