BS 4142: 2014 advises that certain acoustic features can increase the significance of impact of a sound and that where such features are present a character correction should be added to the Specific Sound to obtain the Rating Level. The Standard advises that this can be approached in three ways a) Subjective Method b) Objective Method for Tonality and c) Reference Method.
A number of commercial sounds have been recorded and subjective assessments of tonality and impulsiveness in accordance with Section 9.2 of BS 4142: 2014 have been undertaken at a number of IOA branches.
This talk sees Mike Breslin return to share his findings of these assessments which were presented as an article in the Bulletin.
