Midlands Branch Evening Meeting
A Holistic Approach to Good Residential Building Design - presented by Peter Turner
Thursday 20 July 2017: 18:00 for an 18:30 Start
The Black Box Theatre, The Performance Hub, Walsall Campus, University of Wolverhampton, Gorway Road, Walsall, WS1 3BD

Careful design of residential buildings is essential for the protection and welfare of dwelling occupants from unwanted sound. Noise from neighbouring dwellings, the environment, communal areas, commercial units, services, ventilation, appliances and structure, all contribute to a resident’s experience and so should be considered carefully and collectively at the earliest design stages. Reaction to noise varies considerably between individuals, depending on their personality, lifestyle, health and expectations. Background levels and the characteristics of each sound can skew an individual’s perceptions and opinions. The presentation addresses many factors associated with sound in residential buildings and assesses the robustness of current regulations against other guidance, policies and standards, including the recently published ProPG guidance.

Background :

Peter has worked in the fields of research, consultancy and compliance for over twenty years, specialising in building acoustics, with particular interests in acoustic assessments in occupied buildings.  He was recently Principal Acoustic Consultant at the National House Building Council.

Attendance is free, no need to book, everyone welcome.  CPD certificates will be provided.  If you have any queries please contact A.Foteinou@wlv.ac.uk.
