The IOA has launched today a consultation exercise for notes it has produced to support its A Good Practice Guide to the Application of ETSU-R-97 for the Assessment and Rating of Wind Turbine Noise (the GPG).

Six supplementary guidance notes (SGNs) have been produced. Four are available today and these cover:
• data collection
• data processing and derivation of ETSU-R-97 background curves
• wind shear
• post completion measurements.

The two other notes, covering sound power level data and noise propagation over water for onshore wind turbines, will be published by the end of November. The closing date for the receipt of consultation comments is Friday 24 January 2014.

The SGNs contain additional clarifications, references, and worked examples on issues covered within the GPG. They were not published at the time of the GPG launch in May this year as the IOA working group responsible for drafting the notes wanted time to receive feedback from users of the GPG on those issues that could usefully be covered by the notes. Further feedback is now sought on any issues that may have been missed, or require additional clarity.

SGNs 1, 2, 4 and 5 can be viewed below. SGNs 3 and 6 will be posted on the website as soon as they are available. Respondents to the consultation should ideally complete the response document below. Details of where to send the responses are included in this document.

Following the closing date, the IOA working group will consider all the responses, and aims to finalise the SGNs for publication by Easter 2014.
